Whether you’re looking for a base malt or something more unique, start with West Branch Malts.

Our Malts

Pilsner

Crisp, Clean, Local and Fresh.  Our pilsner malt produces a very light straw gold wort with notes of pecans, breakfast cereal, hay, and green tea.

Pale

This malt produces a light golden color with a more developed flavor over Pilsner malt.  The sweet aromas of honey, corn flakes, and sunflower seeds will be hard to ignore.

Vienna

Our Vienna malt ratchets up the malty complexity with the toasty notes of crisp crackers and bread crust while still remaining sweet and balanced.

Munich

A rich flavor and a beautiful dark golden color really sets our Munich malt apart from the rest.  Malty sweetness with the aromas of fresh baked bread, roasted almonds, and toffee.

Sweet 15 Dextrin

A higher kiln temperature makes this amber hued malt really special.  This malt has a very complex flavor with notes of toasted bread, biscuit, cookie, and roasted cashews.

Special 60

This malt has a very distinguishable caramelized sugar flavor and imparts notes of toasty bread, honey, lightly charred wood and graham crackers.

Ninety – Brown

Our Ninety – Brown malt will leave you speechless.  The aromas of fresh brewed coffee, raisins, brown sugar, and chocolate really shine.

Caramel 15

Malty sweetness with the aromas of fresh baked bread, roasted almonds, and caramel.

Pale Wheat

Ohio grown and malted Soft Red Winter Wheat. A great minor addition for beer head retention. Use up to %50 for a  Hefeweizen style beer. ~3° srm/L color.

Caramel 1 2 3

Kilned at high temperature, this malt creates a very dark brown wort and really packs on the flavor.  Intense notes of dried fruit, dark roast coffee, fresh tobacco and burnt marshmallows.

Caramel 25

Malty sweetness with the aromas toffee and heavier caramel than the Caramel 15.

Top Performing Malts

All our barley malts are produced using a 2-row variety, KWS Scala – a top performer in Ohio State, Penn State and Cornell University field trials.

Don’t Take Our Word for It

John McGroartyThe Butcher & Brewer

No mealiness, great friability, great extract, and great color (nice and light)-even lower than the 2.2 listed

Ben NortheimCollision Bend

Ran off great, higher than expected gravity. Wort smells and tastes great.

Aaron WirtzThe Jolly Scholar

West Branch Malts KWS Scala Pilsner malt delivers malty-sweet flavor with notes of honey and hay very similar to higher priced Continental imports. It also out-performs other American grown pilsner and pale malt brands delivering higher yield. Additionally, the malt exhibits excellent friability and a durable husk providing proper filtration in the mash bed. I highly recommend West Branch Malts Pilsner for any recipe calling for Pilsner or 2-row pale malt.
